For about five minutes, Allen Community College men’s soccer team looked as if it was going to snap its two-game losing skid.
Logan Harris scored with 25 minutes remaining in the game to break a 0-0 tie. Harris’ shot, which gently caromed off the goal post and into the back of the net, appeared to be the offensive dagger Allen had been missing its previous two matches.
So when Crowder bounced back to tie the game at 1-1, it was like a punch to the stomach for the Red Devils.
But the knockout blow came with a little more than 10 minutes left when Allen fouled a Crowder player in the box to give the Roughriders a penalty shot.
Allen’s goalkeeper James Everett guessed incorrectly on the shot and Crowder completed the comeback to win 2-1.
“Officials that make themselves part of the game sometimes is frustrating but we just got to try and dig out of it,” coach Doug Desmarteau said. “A lot of guys right now are really tense and frustrated because they can’t finish.”
The defeat was Allen’s third straight and it was also was its second consecutive one-goal loss.
Allen is now 4-8 heading into the final month of the regular season. Tuesday’s loss didn’t affect the Red Devils conference record because Crowder is not in the league.
But Desmarteau added he hopes the tough loss motivates his team in time for the season’s final stretch of conference games.
